  1. Watch how quickly the UFC intervenes if anyone is critically injured while trying to lose weight. What are you going to do before then? As normal, I’m burying my head in the sand.

  2. Weight cutting is sanctioned cheating, unhealthy, and counterproductive in a sport where fighters are divided by weight class.

  3. Avoid being a coward and fight in his natural weight division. You’re this messed up from dieting and you’re only 4 pounds short of your goal?

  4. I don’t understand why fighters are treated with such pity. It’s the result of legalized cheating. We need a scheme in which fighters genuinely belong in the weight class in which they compete, rather than this insanity of starving yourself to lose weight and then ballooning up thirty pounds.

  5. This is a noob issue. Why do people blame weight-cutting rather than the fighter for attempting to compete in a category that is simply not right for them? Couldn’t this fighter have only fought one weight class up and there would have been no problem?

  6. Oh, no! I hope he’s all right. I used to go to Ryan’s gym around the time he fought Sergio Pettis, and I had no idea he was still fighting in the UFC.

  7. Hello there! Can you give me some context for this because I’m not familiar with UFC? Isn’t he unable to fight if he’s that sick?

  8. Instead of being an oversized pussy like most of the champs/top candidates, why not fight at your natural/attainable weight? It’s absurd to see 6’3 guys battling at WW/MW.

  9. He chose to fight at that weight, so he could have trained more thoroughly. If he didn’t, it’s up to him to either hurry up or inform them ahead of time. It’s hard to hold the UFC responsible for anything that was entirely beyond the fighter’s influence.

  10. Weaseling its way into the sport and embedding itself in the community before anyone decided to do anything about it is sanctioned cheating. It must be abolished for the sake of the athletes’ welfare and the spirit of fair play in general.

  11. People still criticize the commission for doing too much or too little, but kudos to the guy who actually said no and got him off the scale and to the doctor.

They did, however, allow a man to weigh in despite the fact that he had to arrive with a team of EMTs and literal handlers.
